FAQ

Birth without Fear

When is it appropriate to take a Birth withour fear course?

It is usually sometime after week 25. If you are very worried, we recommend taking the course earlier.

What differentiates the Birth without fear from other childbirth preparation courses?

During the course, we work based on physiology, i.e. how the body works, which means that everyone, regardless of whether it is the birthing person or the partner, can recognize what we are talking about. This not only strengthens the laboring woman in her understanding of how to manage the contractions, but also the partner. The partner gets a lot of focus and is therefore strengthened in his role not only by having understood different techniques but also by having gained bodily experience based on the exercises we do together, individually and in pairs.

As instructors, we are experienced and active as doulas at local birth clinics, which means that we are up-to-date on the latest, e.g. which guidelines and routines exist and how it looks at the various hospitals around Skåne. You are given the opportunity to contact the instructor via email or phone if any further questions arise before or after the birth.

The course has given good results in evaluations. 77% are helped by the course during childbirth and 84% have a good experience with them from childbirth. (Evaluation made by 71 expectant parents giving birth and partners). This course is not only inspired by Birth without fear, it is Birth without fear, which means that the pedagogical approach, which is a great advantage of the course, is designed so that the tools are useful tools even when it is time to give birth.

Din Gravidcoach was the first to bring Birth without fear to Skåne and since 2013, thousands of parents have been trained in the method. We also train midwives at, among others, Lund University in the Birth without fear tools.

Practical prophylaxis

When is it appropriate to attend the Practical Prophylaxis Course?

It is usually sometime after week 25. If you are very worried, we recommend taking the course earlier.

What is the difference between Practical prophylaxis and Birth without fear?

Birth without fear (BWF) is a well-established method that offers knowledge about the physiology of birth and provides strategies for how you together can face and manage the contractions during childbirth using the four tools of breathing, relaxation, voice and thought. Within BWF, the practical part is decisive for the value of the course - it is when you train together that the best of preparations is created!

Practical prophylaxis is a private course that can be seen as both an in-depth study and a complement to BWF, where you gain expanded knowledge about how you can optimally prepare for birth based on your individual thoughts, needs and conditions. The focus is on finding out what works for you, exploring how you can use your own home during the latency phase, guidance in formulating a birth letter, discussing birth positions, testing tools such as a TENS machine and rebozo shawl, practicing massage and counter pressure techniques, etc. .

Doula

How do I pay?

The invoice is sent in two installments via email where the first part is a booking fee (non-refundable) which confirms the agreement. The second invoice for the remaining amount must be paid on the first day of on call at the latest. There is an option to pay in installments, ask us and we will solve it.

What happens if we give birth outside of duty hours?

We are on call from v. 38+0 until baby arrives. You also call the on call-number if it starts before then, and in most cases we can attend anyway. Should we not be able to, we have a good network of doulas that we can contact.

What happens if the doula is not present at the birth?

We do not have a standard deduction as it depends on the specific circumstances. If we miss a birth as a result of not being there within the agreed time of the contract, SEK 5,000 will be refunded.

How does it work if the doula cant be with you on certain days or gets sick?

We work based on our Doula-duo concept, which means that we optimize the conditions for you to have a doula you know during the birth. If, against all odds, both get sick or have to be absent for some other reason, we have a strong backup system that can provide support and presence for you.

How big is the demand for doulas?

Much has happened on this front in recent years. Today, doula is a concept that more and more people have heard of, while awareness of the importance of support during childbirth is spreading not least on social media. It varies depending on where in the country you live and what opportunity you have to market yourself. In metropolitan regions, demand is generally higher. However, we see that demand is increasing throughout the country.
